Our Story
Our primary focus is growing pasture. This pasture feeds our milking herd. This herd makes pasture-fed milk and pasture-fed beef. We put all of our dairy cows out to pasture at retirement rather than simply sending them to the abattoir - they deserve it for years of faithful service. You cannot fake pasture fed meat, you can see and you can taste the difference, once you have you will never want anything else again.
You may think retired dairy cow would be as tough as old boots, but it isn’t - we take care to make sure every cow is in the best health and condition and is a long time at rest. Everything is hung for at least 28 days and quality controlled (taste tested at our kitchen table) to ensure a tender and flavoursome beef. Try it and give us honest feedback. It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Our Cows
We’re into stress free living and so are our cows. We know that if we treat our animals well they reward us with excellent productive lives. We milk once a day and our cows are outside from February until November. It is only the relentless Cornish rain that drives us inside, and then it is for the shortest possible time. The herd genetics are British Friesian crossed with Jersey. This gives the cows strong black hooves, high fat and protein milk, and excellent fertility. We seek out good genetics and keep this blood line going. We are selective about what we do and how we do it, with cow welfare being the number one goal.
Our Heritage
Farming is in our blood, both of us come from 3 generations of farming pedigree and our two sons are likely to follow, our retirement-age fathers are still working - it is in our genetics. Our aim is to bring you the best tasting beef that the farms can possibly produce. This takes careful management, with attention to details, like soil health, long lasting pasture leys, minimum tillage, the kindest animal care, the least stressful life with every opportunity for the herd to run, lounge and chew on the pasture.
Our Grass
In short we manage excellent grass. Excellent grass means excellent food for the cows. Excellent food means excellent milk and a good long life. Long life tastes good in the milk and in the beef and it tastes good to us. Taking this a stage further we want the Cornish pasture fed taste that cuts through the cheap competition. We aim to go straight to the family table so there is no one else taking a cut nor meddling with the end product.
